The 530 series is a 5.3m plate aluminium boat kit and the smallest in the Sherwood Marine range to offer a cuddy cabin. Three models share the hull: the 530CC centre console and 530T tiller steer at $15,910 excluding GST, and the 530CD cuddy at $17,700. The 530CD provides a short cabin forward, with a kids curl-up size v-berth or for gear stowage, giving wind and spray protection with a secure standing helm position (not a runabout style), without sacrificing too much cockpit space.
The hull is 5.30 m with a 5.59 m overall length on a 2.25 m beam, using 5 mm bottom plate, 4 mm sides, 3 mm decks and 3 mm cabin. Effective deadrise is 19 degrees, a deep vee for a boat this size for an excellent ride quality, combined with a flooding keel for stability at rest. It carries 140 litres of fuel, is rated for five people, and has a sealed deck with a bilge sump. Maximum power is 140 hp with 100 to 130 hp recommended and a 185 kg engine weight limit.
The 530 is the sensible middle ground of the small monohulls. Against the 500 series it adds 310 mm of hull, 20 litres of fuel and the cuddy option for very little extra cost or towing weight. Against the 560 series it gives up 150 mm of beam, a deeper cockpit and 60 litres of fuel. For its compact size its no lightweight, with good rough water capability and sturdy at rest. If you fish inshore and coastal water, tow behind a family vehicle and want the option of a cabin without moving up a size bracket, the 530 series is the boat to build.
